一般过去时与现在完成时的对比：哪个时态表示过去发生的动作对现在仍然有影响？

二、课文精讲：

1. Mr. James Scott has a garage in Silbury and now he has just bought another garage in Pinhurst.

garage: n. 汽车修理站

He has just bought another garage. （现在完成时）

2. Pinhurst is only five miles from Silbury, but Mr. Scott cannot get a telephone for his new garage, so he has just

bought twelve pigeons.

（1）mile: n. 英里（普遍使用于英国以及英联邦国家）

小知识：1 mile ≈ 1.6 km

… from Silbury: prep. 在表示两地距离时，常用介词 from

♪ Lord, I'm one, Lord, I'm two, Lord,

I'm three, Lord, I'm four, Lord,

I'm five hundred miles away from home. ♪

（2）pigeon: n. 鸽子

He has just bought twelve pigeons.

dove: n. 鸽 smaller and lighter in colour; used as a symbol of peace

put the cat among the pigeons: 说引起麻烦的话；做引起麻烦的事

The boss told his employees that all of them had to go to work on Saturdays, and that really put the cat among the pigeons.

3. Yesterday, a pigeon carried the first message from Pinhurst to Silbury. The bird covered the distance in three

minutes.

（1）carry - carried – carried : v. 运送

If something carries a person or thing somewhere, it takes them there.
