1. The Hubble telescope was launched into space by NASA on April 20, 1990 at a cost of over a billion dollars.

（1）telescope n. （单筒）望远镜

双筒望远镜 binoculars

显微镜 microscope

tele + scope （tele 一般表示为远距离的，电视的）

电话 telephone

电视机 television

电报 telegram

（2）launch v. 发射

发射卫星 launch a satellite

v. （船）下水

海军今天有一艘新军舰要下水。

The Navy is to launch a new warship today.

launch out 开始从事，投身于（新的，尤指令人兴奋的事业）

It's time I launched out on my own. 该是我自己创业的时候了。

（3）space n. “空间”，不可数名词，相当于 room

我们必须充分利用现有空间。

We must make good use of the available space.

“空白，空地”，可数名词

Is there a space for the car? 这儿有空位停车吗？

spaceman 宇航员

spaceship 宇宙飞船

（4）NASA = National Aeronautics and Space Administration （美国）国家航空和宇宙航行局的缩写

在具体某一天前，介词要用 on

在英语的表达中，时间是要从小往大说。

（5）at a cost of … 造价为……，耗资，以……的价格，费用

He rescued the boy from drowning at the cost of his own life.他救这小孩免于淹死却牺牲了自己的生命。

（1）start n. 开始
