Last week, I participated in our school sports meeting, competing in the 400-meter race—

a thrilling and unforgettable experience.

On hearing the sharp whistle, I dashed out, the wind rushing against my face and the crowd’s

cheers echoing around me. My attempts to match the pace of fellow runners proved challenging,

but I didn’t give up. I pushed myself to the limit and crossed the finishing line with all my

strength.

Through the race, I learned that doing sports contributes to our health both physically and

mentally. Sports and health are inseparable!

With the bouquet in hand, Evan rushed home to celebrate Mom’s birthday. On seeing the

gift, his mom was astonished. The bouquet was huge and looked expensive. Rather than being

happy about it, she wondered where Evan had gotten it. “Evan? Where did you get the money for

this?” she asked, worried. With a big smile on his face, Evan told her the whole story and

explained that he had once overheard Stacey’s conversations, learning she didn’t buy herself

things to save money for him, so he made up his mind to give Mom a special gift for her birthday.

Hearing the heartfelt words, mom was moved. She embraced him tightly, expressing her love and

gratitude.

As Evan handed his mom the bouquet, they were surprised to discover an envelope with

several hundred-dollar bills inside. Worried that Mrs. Carter had made a mistake, Evan suggested

returning the money. They went to the flower shop immediately and handed the envelope back to

Mrs. Carter. Smiling warmly, Mrs. Carter explained that it wasn’t a mistake but a birthday gift for

Evan’s mother. She insisted they keep it, saying it was Evan’s affection for his mom that touched

her and that she decided to lend a hand. Moved by Mrs. Carter’s kindness, mom invited her for

dinner that night and they celebrated Stacey’s birthday together.

drive in the rush hour.

W: Oh, it’s easy! Go to the 96th Street station and take the subway downtown. You’ll arrive at the

14th Street station in 20 minutes. And you won’t even have to change to a bus.

M: That’s the new subway line.

W: Indeed. Was Jacob your friend from school?

M: Yes. He was my classmate in high school. Now, he wants to tell me about his new job.

W: Cool. Have fun!

at their education and work history.

M: I only worked in clothing stores and restaurants when I was in college. This would be my first

job after graduation and my first position at an electronics company. Would this be an issue?

W: Oh, no. We accept many recent graduates. Unfortunately, the other secretaries and I can’t offer

much more specific information on this subject.

M: I see. Thanks for your advice.
